Funded by Karelia ENPI 2007-2013

Objective of the project

The aim of the project is to support the growth of cross-border transport between Finland/EU and Russia via border crossing point of Vartius.

Main activities

• Preparation of technical documentations and tendering documents. • Procurement of Contractor. • Implementing the construction plans (opening the slopes, adding new structural layers, paving the road).

Achievements

The most notable benefit from the project was the improvement of road users' driving comfort, as the vertical geometry of the paved road was improved in places and the road pavement was widened from 6.2 metres to 7.5 metres. This enhances the traffic safety and gets the traffic flow more fluently. The rest area improvements allow road users to take breaks safely.
