Waste tire recycle to fuel oil Project, 1st step
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999
Objective of the project
From an environmental point of view, recycling of used (wasted) car tires is perceived as a global problem. Suomen Rengaskierrätys Ltd. and Säkkiväline Ltd collect used tires. Experimental factories for the disposal of used tires are located in Moscow and Minsk. At high temperatures, fuel oil, pyrocarbine, hydrocarbon gases, etc. are released from tires. All of these products can be used in the energy sector and in the production of insulating materials. This heat treatment of tires is unknown in Finland. In the mines of the Kostomuksha Combine, a huge amount of used tires has accumulated, which have become an environmental problem for the city. The city of Kostomuksha and the Kostomuksha Iron Mine are interested in cooperation in product development with Finnish specialists. Equipment manufacturers are also interested in cooperation. The goal of the project is to develop new innovative products for the Western market. TEKES (Finnish Foundation for Technology and Innovation) participates in the project. The project (Phase 1) is investigating the feasibility study of the plant to be located in Kuhmo / Vartius. The project involves specialists from Finland and Russia.
