Objective of the project
The overall objective of the project was to rebalitate and improve the road connection leading to the Vainikkala border-crossing point from the South-East and Southern regions in FInland and especially from the cities of Lappeenranta and Imatra. The expected result was an increased traffic capacity and safer traffic between Lappeenranta and Vainikkala, and that people, goods and services would have better accessibility to the fast railway route.
Main activities
Main actives are: - to carry out the tendering procedures and - to carry out the construction works. The project will enhance cross-border transport between Russia and Finland/EU by improving the road connection to the Vainikkala railway border crossing point from the South-East and Southern Regions in Finland and especially the cities of Lappeenranta and Imatra.
Achievements
The concrete outputs of the project are the following: six kilometres of the old Simola-Vainikkala road were rehabilitated, three kilometres of new road was constructed, and the Simola road junction of roads number 387 and 3891 was rehabilitated.
