Training in Forest Road Planning and Building (Tacis)
Funded by Euregio Karelia Neighbourhood Programme 2001-2006

Objective of the project

The project was to develop the instruction and educational programmes in the Republic of Karelia. The goal was to design a new training programme for forest road planning and construction for the Shuisko-Vidanskaja Forest Technical School, improve the pedagogic skills of the local instructors and implement a pilot period for the training.

Main activities

• Assessing of other educational institutions and their training programmes that offer excavator driver instruction in Russian Karelia in order to utilize the acquired information in the planning of the training programme • Mapping of the existing teaching material, translating Finnish teaching material into English • Arrangement of training events for three of the Russian instructors at the partner school • Purchase of a pre-owned excavator and its delivery to Shuisko-Vidanskaja Forest Technical School.

Achievements

The Shuisko-Vidanskaja Forest Technical School was the greatest beneficiary of the project. It received a new training programme and an excavator for instructional purposes, which will result in an increase in student enrolment. Valtimo North Karelia College also benefited from the project, as it receives valuable experience and expertise by developing the training programme. This improves both the college’s competitiveness as a training provider, and its ability to attract students, both domestic and international.
