Objective of the project
The increased use of border crossing points with Russia for international and domestic tourism, as well as the development of border crossing points in North Karelia and the municipalities required infrastructure development to improve the flow of border crossings, the safety and quality of border controls. As part of the project, improved border control was going to increase the number of detections of forged documents at border crossings and the investigation of criminal offenses. In addition, conditions was going to be created to prevent forced transit, conduct border controls and improve the flow of border crossing at the international border crossing point of Niirala. The project was planned to prevent illegal entry and unauthorized crossing of the state border at border crossing points and beyond. From a practical point of view, within the framework of the project, it was planned to prioritize target areas, determine technical requirements, and conclude commercial contracts for the purchase of equipment, its installation and connection. The staff was going to be trained in the use and commissioning of the new equipment.
