Sea buckthorn for farming in Karelia

Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to popularize and develop the selection and cultivation of sea buckthorn in Finland and the Republic of Karelia. Sea buckthorn planting material, imported from mainland Russia to Finland, is processed and grown in the municipality of Ruukki, after which it can be grown in the Voknavolok and Venejärvi regions. Sea buckthorn berries are imported into Finland and used as new products in processed dairy products by food and biotechnology companies. The beneficiaries are the food industry, a biotechnology company and milk producers in Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.
