Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to educate entrepreneurs from Kainuu´s textile and clothing industry, with the purpose of utilizing Karelian and Kainuu´s textile and clothing tradition in the production. The planning and producing of the original textile and clothing products, based on the area´s tradition, was going to require knowledge of local traditions and culture. The applicants wanted to create an opportunity for the artisans, textile and clothing designers and the students to learn how to utilize the local traditions, therefore securing the availability of products based on traditions, as well as the preserving of the textile and clothing traditions in Kainuu. With the help of the project, products and product series based on Kainuu´s and Karelian textile traditions were going to enter the markets. The project was going to utilize the research information gathered in the RIHMA-project, which was a research and storing project of joint textile tradition of Kainuu and Karelia. Other objectives of the project was going to include the achieved high quality of the produced products, which was going to possible thanks to the training and product development, the preserving of jobs, traditionally done by women and the offering of original real handcraft products for area´s tourists. After the training, the marketing of the products was going to utilize the already existing sales network.
