Ruka ski resort
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999
Objective of the project
The objective of the project was to ensure the competitiveness of tourism in Ruka ski resort and to promote and support tourism from Russia. As demand from Russia was increasing, business leaders in Ruka needed to develop the language skills of their employees and publish materials in Russian. The weak points of the district were the low supply of rental services and the number of catering outlets. Both problems were especially relevant in relation to Russian tourists, because, for example, almost all Russian ski-tourists want to rent equipment for the entire duration of their stay at the resort. At that time, this was practically impossible as the rental capacity of the resort was low. RukaSki Oy had acquired a 2,650 m2 plot of land near the Ruka ski resort from the Finnish General Forestry Administration for the construction of a new service center in the central square. Sketch drawings and an estimate for the construction of the building have already been drawn up. The project is divided into two parts. The actual cost of the construction phase was 7,272,000 Finnish marks (1,222,676 euros), including investment support in accordance with the Business Support Act. The costs for design, surface preparation in marshy areas and the purchase of furniture, as well as for the work were 6 610 000 Finnish marks (1 111 677 euros), and for this part it was planned to use the financing of the Interreg II Karelia Programne.
