Objective of the project
The overall objective of the Nuijamaa Border Crossing project was to strenghten the local and regional sustainable economic development by expanding the existing border crossing facilities to increase border crossing throughput from Finland to Russia.
Main activities
Design, construction and reconstruction of the transport infrastructure at the Nuijamaa border crossing: - to carry out the final designs/plans for the needed infrastructure work, - to carry out necessary tendering procedures and - to carry out the construction of transport area works.
Achievements
The objectives were reached by the following activities: 1) preparing the final engineering plans, 2) construction of new lanes and 3) the road junction improvement. In the Project, all the activities were implemented and the expected concrete results were achieved: a new lane was constructed to the lane-checking building for traffic leaving Finland, a new lane was constructed for public transport vehicles leaving Finland, a new lane constructed near the main building for traffic leaving Finland, traffic management and telematics equipment were installed, and the road junction was improved for highway 13/public roads 3902 and 3921 in Nuijamaa village.
