Objective of the project
Overall objective is to strengthen the identity, investment possibilities and attraction of the Nenets and Finnish Sami Areas. Knowledge of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional culture and livelihood gets better. A long-term objective is to create – in conjunction with the Sámi Education Institute – a development centre specialising in tourism among the indigenous peoples of the north. Cultural co-operation will be established between reindeer herding and cultural events in the Nenets and Sami regions. Marketing through media, film and TV productions. To conclude the project, a tourism plan will be prepared for the Nenets Okrug covering the period from 2013 to 2020. The package tours and products will be based on the rich culture and traditions of the indigenous peoples of the north and the Arctic nature of the regions.

Achievements
The project has provided experience to Nenets about tourism development. The focus has been on creating, developing and marketing of culture and package tour services designed from the region’s indigenous population’s own perspective.
