Funded by Euregio Karelia Neighbourhood Programme 2001-2006

Objective of the project

Main road 866 is a regional road that leads to Russia through the Kortesalmi border crossing point. The project was intended to plan the road arrangements for the customs inspection point being built at the Kortesalmi border station and to finalise taking possession of the areas. At the same time, it was intended that an operational plan would be created for the road arrangements and inspection point completion phasing.

Achievements

The Oulu Road Region began the Kuusamo customs and border station road planning during September 2003 immediately following the consultant selection. The road plan was completed by Feb 13, 2004. The road plan includes the public road area and lane arrangements necessary for the internationalisation of the border crossing point. The road plan was created in close co-operation with the Finnish Border Guard, Finnish Customs, and with representatives from Senate Properties.
