Lumbermen’s week in Kuhmo
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

With the project, a logger-week event was going to be organized in Kuhmo. The summer of 1999 marks the 50th anniversary of the first official Finnish forestry championship in the Pajakkakoski area near Kuhmo. In addition to logging competitions, it is planned to collect materials on the history of logging. The project will result in a rural tourism event that will support the business community and rural entrepreneurs. As a result of the project, a company will be established in 2000 to provide training programs and services. The project will host an annual tourism event organized by the Finnish Woodcutters' Association registered in Kuhmo. Kostomuksha is an important partner in preserving the logging tradition. In the Republic of Karelia, logging takes longer than on the Finnish side and there are more different tools.
