Objective of the project
The objective of the project was to improve accessibility in built environment increasing the possibilities for disabled and elderly people to manage in their daily activities and opportunities for social participation.
Main activities
• Survey of the accessibility competence in target areas. • Planning and implementing education modules for accessibility in built environments. • Determination of the methods for common activities and basis for the possible service products. • Planning and supervising of two pilot environments for accessibility in Republic of Karelia. • Preparation of the operations model for long-term cooperation between involved actors and areas. • Informing of accessibility and dissemination of the project results.
Achievements
The project clearly increased the transferable skills of the participating organizations and their employees to observe the demands of accessible environment for elderly and disabled people. Basis for the continuing cross-border cooperation in the field of accessibility have been built by the project. Visibility of accessibility as a quality factor of built environment and an enabler for independent managing of the elderly and disabled people was clearly promoted during the project in Republic of Karelia and in Finland.
