Objective of the project

The increased fishing and fishing tourism created pressure for the development of the whole body of water laying down to east from Kuusamo, and its fish stock. Answers for the problems, that had emerged from the fish stocks, fishing tourism and fish industry, were going to be found from the research and monitoring of fish stocks and fishing, new fishing systems and the cooperation between different actors. The objective of the project was to compose and to budget a large development programme for the fish industry, which was going to last the entire following programme period and consist of development, research and following of the fish industry, past-time fishing and the fish stocks. Multiple actors from the Russian side of the border were also going to be involved in the development programme. Because of the project, the situation of the fish industry of the body of water laying down to east from Kuusamo, including also from the Russian side, was going to be mapped. This was going to ensure the right actors and the prerequisites for the operation for the actual development project.
