Kuhmo’s agenda
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

Additional and alternative opportunities for the gathering of livelihood for those engaged in the traditional farming production in the Kuhmo countryside were going to be researched during the project. The objective was to activate the farms and create opportunities for the development of the operations in the cross-border cooperation. Around 150 farms were involved in the project, and for all them development plans were going to be made. During the project, the opportunities for the Kuhmo countryside to better utilize the cooperation with the Republic of Karelia, for example in the raw material production, countryside tourism as well as productive and commercial cooperation, were going to be examined. At the time, the applicant believed the Russian tourists to be future resource of the countryside tourism, and the opportunities of tourist companies from Kuhmo to receive Russian tourists were going to be improved. In addition, the job opportunities, such as machine and construction contract work, behind the Russian border were going to be researched. The main targets of the project were those farms who needed additional income and farms that had stopped or were going to stop meat or dairy production in the future
