Karelian culture and pilgrimage tourism
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to create a complex product and software on the theme of Orthodoxy and Karelian culture in North Karelia and North Savo. The funding applied from the Interreg II Karelia Programme was going to be implemented only in North Karelia. This project was preceded by a pilot project to market and manufacture existing tourism products in two provinces. The first stage received a positive response abroad, and as a result, the project partners felt that the actions already started should be completed. In the course of this project, the created software must go through a commercialization process and be handed over to resellers along with a video and product descriptions. Our goal was to take part in the publication of booklets for 15 new tour operators. Target countries are England, Germany, France, Sweden and Greece. In addition, themed days were going to be organized for guides related to cultural and pilgrimage trips. The project also considers the formation of a marketing network and a development program for the Valaam Monastery.
