Karelia Biosphere Reserve: opportunities through the border

Objective of the project

The objective of the project to form a functioning supply chain of natural products from Karelia to Finland that meets quality and commercial criteria. Within the framework of the project, it was planned to create local, regional and direct networks of contacts between the eastern regions of Finland and the Republic of Karelia, as well as to develop the international Karelian Biosphere Reserve. Within the framework of the project, it was planned to create on the territory of the Karelian Biosphere Reserve a reference territory of the Green Zone for joint international activities in the field of tourism and nature management. The target region of activity was the territory of Karelia, which consists of Finnish and Russian regions. The key principle was that joint action by the parties brought mutual benefit. The main goal of the project was, using local experience, to bring business ties to the same level as the level of rural and municipal economic activity and education. The project consisted of two parts: 1. "Raw Karelia"; creation of a raw material and technological chain from Karelia to Finland, 2. "Cooperation in the field of biosphere", creation of information points and marketing of biosphere reserves.
