Kainuu is a cross-country skiing region
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999
Objective of the project
The objective of the project was to bring the Kainuu skiing strategy to life and continue the marketing strategy towards Russia with new marketing tools. The plan was to create a web page about the most significant ski events and products in Kainuu, as well as links to the websites of various marketing organizations. The same products must be presented in writing, for example in the marketing materials of the Vuokatti Tourist Centre and the Kainuu Travel Centre. Premium quality content written in Russian should be improved by creating a pilot version of the ski slope map in the new ski slope classification system. It is planned to organize a seminar to which 20 specialists from different regions of the Republic of Karelia are invited. Organization and marketing of mass events is planned. Vuokatti as a training centre for skiing and cross-border ski tourism is one of the main themes of the events. Skiing activities and products were also developed. The Kainuu Ski Trail Hiking is grouped under one name and general criteria for ski trails are drawn up throughout Kainuu region. The task was to get up-to-date information about open ski slopes for tourists and employees of travel companies. The ski slopes are classified into four to five different categories depending on the frequency of maintenance of the ski slopes, the hours when they are open, their difficulty and services. Ski weeks should be marketed through direct and newspaper advertising.
