Funded by Karelia ENPI 2007-2013

Objective of the project

The objective was to improve quality of life of persons with disabilities by improving their personal mobility and access to a range of in-home, residential and other community support services.

Main activities

• A study on the existing international and Russian web-sites and applications, guidelines and templates, as well as practices and technical approaches regarding accessibility of objects and services for persons with disabilities. • Implementation of region-customized Social Navigator (including web-site with enhanced functionality and a set of mobile services) freely available for persons with disabilities, social authorities and public organizations. • Dissemination of developed accessibility maps, passports and applications.

During the Project 6 new mobile and web-based solutions for regional application were developed. Also significant contributions and functionality extensions to Geo2Tag platform were made and the platform is now used in multiple applications and use-cases in the Region. This development of the open-source platform facilitates development of location-based services by other teams in the programme area and beyond. Ministry of Health and Social Development of Karelia recognizes the need in Accessibility passports and others services and supports their maintenance and further development financially after the project. The achievements, competences and infrastructure, developed in the course of the Project implementation, also enabled PetrSU jointly with "Petrosino" (association of motor-disabled persons of Karelia) to win a grant of the "Karelian support programme for non-profit social organizations" to support and maintain the Social Navigator in 2015 and beyond.
