Improving the Haapovaara border crossing point’s operational functionality

Objective of the project

The goal of the project was to implement the necessary connections for electronic monitoring and travel document inspection at the Haapovaara border crossing point as well to combine the local information technology (IT) networks in order to improve data communication at the border crossing point. In addition, the quality of the electricity connection was to be improved and electricity backup equipment installed.

Main activities

• to build an appropriate location for the equipment that would promote maintenance and upkeep and to ensure that the equipment would function in the equipment location during all use situations. • to improve the quality and effectiveness of border control and inspections as well as improve the border-crossing area's IT operational preparedness and bring the level of service in line with current standards.

Achievements

The project was completed as planned. The necessary data connections were acquired for the border crossing point, the electricity connection quality was improved, new electricity backup equipment was installed, and the equipment with the cabling changes was moved from the old equipment area to the new one. As a result of these actions, the border crossing area achieved the IT operational preparedness and service level necessary for border crossing points and the quality and effectiveness of border monitoring and inspections was improved.
