Hyvölä semi-detached house project
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999
Objective of the project
With the help of the project, a semi-detached house for tourists was going to be constructed and furnished. The number of Russian tourists in Sotkamo had been rising after the midway point of the 1990s. In 1995 the number of Russian tourists staying the night in Sotkamo was 2 909, while in 1998 it was 25 463. According to the SME industry indicator of the accommodation and nutrition business of spring 1999, the future of the industry seemed bright in the eyes of the entrepreneurs. Especially the attraction of the tourist centres were constantly growing. According to the 24.5.199 released research conducted by the Taloustutkimus Oy. (Business Research Ltd.), Vuokatti was the most interesting winter sport centre in Finland for the residents of St. Petersburg and Moscow. The planned semi-detached house was going to be built to Vuokatti, near the Hotel Suvikka. The usage rate of the holiday cabins near the growth centre was extremely high at the time and the project invested especially in the servicing of Russian customers, an area which the applicant already had earlier experience.
