Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to increase the level of knowledge about Russia among entrepreneurs in Kainuu, develop production and establish links between food companies in Kainuu with further access to export markets. The project aims to diversify cross-border food trade and facilitate the entry of Kainuu companies into the Russian market, for example, by improving knowledge of the rules and trade culture in the target area, as well as by developing effective cross-border trade relations and cooperation with the food sector in Northwest Russia. The main target area of the project is the Republic of Karelia (780,000 inhabitants), but the project also aims to promote food companies from Kainuu in St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions. The project is based on the results of the project “Food trade between Kainuu and North-West Russia” of the Interreg II Karelia Program. Within the framework of the project, a study was carried out to identify the interest of Kainuu food companies in eastern trade. Also, within the framework of the project, an information event related to the export of food products was organized. St. Petersburg was chosen as a marketplace, the purchasing power of the region, consumer demand, etc. were studied. In addition, the representative of the Finnish company in St. Petersburg spoke about marketing strategies and the search for potential clients.
