FinRus Mobile Technology
Funded by Euregio Karelia Neighbourhood Programme 2001-2006

Objective of the project

The goal of the project was to create a functional Finnish and Russian research environment around the RF Media laboratory shared by the Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Oulu, in order to make the high level of Russian expertise available to Finnish companies in their R&D activities.

Main activities

• Research cooperation, • Planning of the R&D project operations in accordance with the needs of companies, • Creation of cooperation models and starting the research projects.

Achievements

The project created a Finnish and Russian research environment where two Russian researchers worked during the project and two more were due to arrive after the project period. Importing equipment technology did not occur as planned in the project. Instead, the project relied on the existing equipment in the RF Media laboratory, which was supplemented during the project, but from other RF Media laboratory sources. The project was used to support company R&D as planned. A long-range DSP radio device was designed and built for Tracker Oy in the Finnish and Russian research environment. The company was responsible for implementing the commercial version of the project, thereby continuing the work of the project. The goal to create and maintain connections with universities was also successful, since St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University ‘LETI’, Karelia State University of Pedagogy and Petrozavodsk State University joined the cooperation effort. Continuous contact was maintained with the universities during the project.
