Export of housing construction know-how to Russia
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to create opportunities for construction companies in the Kainuu region to take part in the first housing fair in St. Petersburg in 1999, which will increase export opportunities to St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. The project will develop a model for urban planning and measures to organize a housing construction fair in St. Petersburg. Contacts have been established with the leaders of the construction sector in Russia. New types of technical solutions will be tested for housing based on the experience gained in organizing housing fairs in Finland. However, creating a real model is not part of the project. The project will increase the region's exports, including Kainuu timber houses, construction expertise, further wood processing and the furniture industry. In addition, the project is supporting the 2001 Kajaani Housing Fair, where it was planned to organize a joint construction project between St. Petersburg and Kainuu. The letter of intent for the project was signed on March 5, 1998.
