Distribution and effects of air emissions from Kostomuksha in Kainuu
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The project was going to study the distribution of air emissions from Karjalan Pelletti based in Kostomuksha in terms of concentration and deposition using a transport and propagation model in Kainuu. The aim of the project was to compile the most accurate distribution model, especially in relation to the radioactive fallout ending up Finland. Based on the data received, an automatic air quality monitoring station was going to be installed on the eastern border of Kainuu. The observation station was going to allow studying the impact of air emissions on the nature of Kainuu and how the reduction of emissions affects Kainuu.
