Development project of Kalevala village
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999
Objective of the project
The Kalevala village in Kuhmo is a traditional village, built according to ancient models on the site of the birth of the national epic Kalevala and karelianism, its purpose is to increase interest in Kuhmo as a tourist destination. The sights of the Kalevala village are built according to authentic old models. The problem was in the uniformity of the tourist program in the village, and the limited choice of activities. Various events, holidays, tours of different content could be held in the village, which would have a positive impact on the attractiveness of the Kainuu region as a tourist destination. To maintain and increase customer interest, more attention was planned to be paid to the annual renewal and diversification of the Kalevala Village program services. During the project the common cultural heritage of the border areas would be used by including it in tourism products. Three new operating models would be developed during the project. The project aimed to identify new customer segments and improve marketing efficiency in order to increase the number of visitors. Cooperation with the new owner of the Kalevala hotel was developing, and the Kalevala tour would be included in the hotel package at the sales stage, which would increase the number of visitors in the Kalevala village. During the project, a video of the village "Kalevala" and other presentation materials were planned to be developed.
