Development program for the Vartius Border Guard Station
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to develop a program to transform Vartius border crossing point into one of the most important border crossing points on the border between Russia and the European Union. The program was going to include the design of the Vartius border crossing point (landscape and environment), the immediate vicinity, as well as urban engineering. In the future, a functional, versatile and high quality border crossing point was going to create conditions for the development of industry and tourism. In 1999, the project received a grant for continued funding.
