Development of telecommunication connections in the border area
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999
Objective of the project
The object of the project was to construct two buildings required by the telephone support station with the proper towers and extra equipment in the Paljakka and Lämsä villages in Kuusamo municipality near the Russian border. Telecom Finland was going to build their own NMT 450-support station equipment, including the antennas, to the towers on their own expense. The telephone stations were going to serve the needs of the settlements around the villages on the Finnish side of the border, as well as the needs of the telephone traffic between Finland, Paanajärvi and Pääjärvi. The development of the telephone network was closely connected to the development of the Paanajärvi national park and of the security of the wood transportation to Finland.
