Cooperation of National parks Oulanka and Paanajärvi
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to develop and tighten the cooperation between the Oulanka national park in the Kuusamo municipality in Finland and the Paanajärvi national park in the Loukhsky District in the Republic of Karelia. The purpose of the cooperation was to get the two national parks to become a joint UN world heritage site. Within the framework of the project, it was planned to deepen the research and development work of parks, improve service equipment, as well as bring presentation, exhibition and instructor operations to the international level. The language skills and the service spirit of the staff was going to improved keeping in mind the increasing tourism from the Republic of Karelia.
