Construction planning for Vartius’ landscaping, environmental maintenance work and water supply
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999
Objective of the project
At the time of the application, the Vartius border crossing point was in desperate need for quick repair, in order for it to match its status as a hub for international traffic and an official border crossing point. A plan for the development of the Vartius border crossing point and its near areas had been completed in the spring of 1999. The development plan included the general plans for the operations, land use, traffic system and the municipal technique. One of the most important continuation plans of the development plan were the detail plan for the landscape and environment care and the construction design for the water supply. There had been problems in the operations of the water intakes, in situations with high consumption and with the water quality in the water consumption of Vartius and its near-by areas. Additionally, a new groundwater intake had to be constructed in order to ensure the Vartius´ water acquisition. The general plan for the water supply at the Vartius border crossing point area, including the water acquisition and the directing and cleaning of the sludge water, had been completed in the spring of 1999. The actual construction planning was going to be executed during the project on the basis of the general plan. It was going to include the design of the water intake facility with the proper researches, the design of the feeding water pipe, the design of the wastewater treatment plant and the enlargement of the trunk water pipe and the trunk sewer, as well as the design for the increasing of the capacity of the pressure sewer.
