Objective of the project
The project was going to include the building of the electronic communication infrastructure through Joensuu and Valtimo to Kainuu and the Republic of Karelia. The project was going to connect the communication networks of Joensuun Puhelin Ltd. and the Kajaani Telephone Society by building a fibre connection with the correct transfer system between Valtimo and Vuokatti. The project was executed together with Kainuu region, whose project funding was organized with the same concept as the applicant´s, who was from North-Karelia. The project was going to provide new and trustworthy services and connections for the customers of the Joensuun Puhelin. The constructed fibre connections were going to service firstly the telecommunications between the regions and across the border. Project was also going to advance the networking of the communities and the companies of the Interreg II-programme area and provide the infrastructure needed for the diverse development. Both private and public communities had expressed interest in the communications network. The project was especially going to further the business operations of the companies exporting to Russia and improve the safety level of the tourism because the whole service area of the Republic of Karelia was going to be available.
