Conducting a preliminary study on the creation of a multi-disciplinary centre of sea tourism in Kronstadt
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The objective of the project was to prepare a preliminary study on the creation of a multi-disciplinary centre of sea tourism in Kronstadt, with business services, accommodation and fitness services. The Marine Tourism Centre could serve the growing tourism industry in the St. Petersburg area as a tourism training centre. The project would significantly improve the conditions of the applicant and the northern regions of Finland for the development of the export of tourism activities and construction in Russia. The project also helped to raise awareness among travel companies in Northern Finland about the requirements and expectations of Russian tourists traveling in Finland. Russian partners would be involved in the marketing of Finnish tourism products in St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg supported the development of the region as a major tourist centre of the Gulf of Finland. The early involvement of Finnish companies in the planning stage could lead to significant design and construction work in Finland in the future.
