Climate Proof Living Environment (SE497)
Funded by South-East Finland - Russia ENPI 2007-2013
Objective of the project
The objectives of the project was at first to assess the integrated geological and environmental risks for the built areas in the Gulf of Finland region caused by geological peculiarities of the region. Second objective was to identify climate change parameters and their possible influence on geological and environmental processes causing environmental risks for the built areas in the Gulf of Finland region. Third objective was to develop the adaptation strategies for St. Petersburg, the Kymenlaakso region, the Uusimaa region and the Helsinki metropolitan area through cooperation between local and regional authorities and organizations.
Main activities
- Development maps of geological and environmental risks for current situation - Development maps of geological and environmental risks under different climate change scenarios - Development of practical recommendations on measures for geological and environmental risk reduction under current and future climate - Target group cooperation as a cross-cutting issue over the whole project period
Achievements
The results were achieved by using methodology and tools awarded via grant (focusing in the identification of exposure, impact and sensitivity). Project developed maps of geological and environmental risks for current situation and under different climate change scenarios. During implementation project developed practical recommendations for risk reduction and adaptation strategy for St.Petersburg area, Helsinki metropolitan area and build areas in Southern Finland. To promote the exchange of experiences, awareness and expertise in the field of climate change-induced environmental and geological risks project introduced new tools and methodologies for risk assessment and management of selected environmental and geological risks at different planning levels. As a result two dissemination seminars, two target group and stakeholder seminars, three stakeholder workshops, more than sixteen partner meetings (official and unofficial), five target group meetings and four excursions have provided the regional and local authorities and other stakeholders information on the project activities.
