Bioindicator monitoring of air in North Karelia
Funded by Interreg II Karelia 1996-1999

Objective of the project

The project was going to be used to study the distribution and impact of local emissions from North Karelia and the Republic of Karelia on the nature of North Karelia, as well as to analyze changes in air quality in comparison with previous studies using bioindicators. The research was going to focus on the study of mosses on pine trunks, using measurements of sulfur or heavy metals in mosses or lichens if needed. This information was going to be used to locate North Karelia bioindicator monitoring points and to compare the impact of local emissions and long-distance transport in North Karelia.
